Message: <blockquote data-quote="vantexan" data-source="post: 4562515" data-attributes="member: 24302"><p>We learned first hand just how prejudiced the white Northerners can be when busing was forced on them in the '70's.  There were plenty of Southern sympathizers in the North during the Civil War.  If you think everyone up North were completely different in their views from the South you don't know history or the politics of the era.  And it was the Confederate States of America.  Anyone born in North, Central, or South America is an American.  And it was the Republican Party that freed the slaves and got Civil Rights legislation passed.  The Democrats realized they couldn't win without the Black vote so they devised programs for Blacks to get their vote which lead to most Blacks switching parties.  Most Blacks after the Civil War until the 60's were Republican.  Martin Luther King was a Republican.</p></blockquote><p></p>
