Looking for some clarification on time off. Was under the assumption that what you don't use was paid back to you at year end but was told the other day that personal time is use or lose. Is this correct? On a few occasions over the years I haven't gotten paid for days off didn't follow up assuming I'd get it back at the end of the year.

Depends on your supplement. In the Atlantic Area, sicks days can be rolled over each year and vacation/personal days are paid out in December.

Our two Optional days are paid out the 1st of May every year. I have never used an Optional day.

Especially if you just started and don't have any days yet, anyway. I love it when new people call it an "option day". Every Monday and Friday. And sometimes T-W- and/or Th.

I try to burn mine up,they tax the crap out of them if you get paid for them
They do tax you at a higher rate. That's not too bad if it's at the end if the year and you get it back on income tax time

One year I saved all my sick days and got payed for them.It got taxed like I was getting a bonus check.

Plan ahead by adjusting your W-4.
I cashed mine in one year, when I was hurting for cash. Wasn't worth it.
