what is the best way to memorize the states and zip codes for sorting packages
I learned by making flash cards.
Do the job repeatedly.
taking the sort test a lot helped me. and sorting with someone who knows it well and helps you is nice
Smalls or trailer?
For Smalls I've found that having someone sort for a while then bag made a difference. They could see their mistakes and adjust.
The belt I've found you just have to do it. When you screw up enough coworkers will let you know what goes where. I know that's not what you wanted to hear, but sometimes a little trial by fire is a good thing.
By their shoe size.
Brings back memories. My wife made me flash cards for the sort. Lmfao. Forgot about that.
My girlfriend made me some. And she flashed me every time I got it right.
When I started sorting the preload box line that is how I learned. Go through the phone book picking out random address and guessing which cage it goes to. Mostly it is just repetition. Inside a week you will 75% accurate and after a month 90%.
know the zip splits!
I remember sometimes at 3 am some of the real heavy boxes accidentally went to the bottom belt instead of the top belt............
Doesn't EDD fix that?
Not me........ Some of the older guys came in half awake and just didn't give a f....... I was wide awake back then. I was just a kid.
We used to drink beer on Break time.
That is fine being a Hub sorter. Being a boxline sorter you sort by address not zip codes. I can not image any of the new sorters who have only sorted by PAL labels try the old way. Of course we were paid $.50/hour less then drivers after a 30 day progression with full benefits.
Sounds a lot like me. Bet I would still outsort you.
Yep. I'm an " old guy" now.
Separate names with a comma.
