He needs to go in there and own it. There are very few accidents you can be in that you know nothing about. There are even fewer people who will believe him. He needs to go in there tell them sorry own it and take his lumps. Then when he comes back he need to upgrade his game.
Telematics could screw him here. Say the driver stopped the car for 15 second after pulling out. Management is going to assume it was to go check out damage.

Ok say the lady didn't see it or realize it until days later or reported it days later or they see it on video , you wouldn't have known therefor not reported it until too late,,,is reporting an accident days later before anything comes of it , to late?
Ok say you just actually tells us what happened or quit wasting our time.

If that's the case it can be explained that he got scared. It's human nature and if he's got a little money in the bank and his ha is pretty good it can work.

If he had no reason to think that he had hit anything then he would have no reason to stop or reason to be scared. Stopping and checking without calling it in would be the worst thing to do.

Yea I agree but we've had success with being humbly apologetic. The ups culture is all built on lies. They lie to and sometimes they can relate. It all depends on how good your union represention and sincere the apology is.

Hypothetical , say he did stop and saw no damage and kept going thinking nothin of it and is honest about "showed by telematics " what then?
If the driver thought something had happened its best to notify management ASAP. Put the ball in their court from the onset. If a customer saw this or has video there would be someone standing around the scene. If its a minor avoidable accident(hit a stationary object) then a warning letter should be coming. The center will say that they are discharging the driver and it usually ends up being some time off. Key here is if the driver didn't report it or denied it as this could be taken as dishonesty.

If he takes your advice, he most likely will not be back to "upgrade" his game.

Accidents, according to the contract, need to be reported immediately. He did not report it because he said he did not know he hit it. Fair enough. UPS fired him for an unreported accident.

Contract says an accident that you should have had knowledge about. Let his BA fight this out. If it was very little damage, very possible that the driver did not know he hit it.

Should be back with very little time off.

Now, if he takes your advice, he can not only be fired, and will be, for an unreported accident, since he admitted hitting the car and not reporting it, he will also be fired for dishonesty for lying about it in the first place.

Either one by itself, may give the driver a chance. But with both of these together, he has no chance at all.

Before you give advice that will seal a drivers fate, think about it first.
