Lived in the area since about 1961 and never had sidewalks. Never.
Now, suddenly, they are everywhere.
My wife, who is VERY awake, says private ownership of cars is coming to an end.

There's been a lot of federal grant money flowing for years now to increase "walkability" of communities. Use it or lose it slush funds through HHS, CDC, EPA etc.

In my area , the MBTA wants to install new crosswalks and curb pickup spots.
In an area where people generally walk in the streets. ( there are some sidewalks , but most would rather not be stepping up & down at every corner )
