Ever hear of the working poor? Ever hear of the destruction of the middle class? The idea that everyone should make a great living with a great future is a fantasy. I'm glad you help your mom. I do too. And my wife. And help my dad by living with him. I could be perfectly comfortable on my income living overseas but have family obligations. My brother makes 3 times what I do and his wife is an RN with a profitable Airbnb sideline to boot. Yet won't give my mom anything. They're living the life. Took his wife and stepdaughter to Miami for Spring Break from Michigan yet won't give my mother a penny. So please don't tell me how selfish I am. When my dad passes I'm in South America. Might be a year, might be 5. But I give my money to them. $1840 a month pension and almost half goes to my wife and mother. And my wife's income is more than twice mine. I don't give a damn about the money. But when faced with a bill of hundreds of thousands and THEY say don't worry, we'll write it off, and the home healthcare nurse says they're doing everything pro bono, you think I'm going to say no? You think I went begging to them? They asked if I had insurance. I said no. They said don't worry. Your problem is you think you already have everything figured out. Well this old fool knows what he knows from a lifetime of reading and living. And know there's always more to learn. But not you buddy. You've got it all figured. Can't be told because you're superior. Guys like you usually find out the hard way. Good luck with that.
