UPS 2013 = General Motor1989!!!!

Annoy a liberal today. Hit them with facts.
Micheal Moore is an idiot.

Mr. Moore IS PRO- WORKER.:wink2: The guy made a great film about corporate greed and how they screwed alot of middle class workers. Thats a fact. Not a slant.
\
If UPS could outsource its workforce they would. Good thing we dont make cars. The irony now is the American car industry seems to be making a come back and jobs are being created.
Micheal Moore is a left wing eliteist. He doesn't give a crap about workers. He just is trying to tear down big business.
About making a film about corporate greed, you can't point a GM workers. They make alot and some were even paid to sit in a room for 8 hour shifts to be called upon if necessary. What a job.
As for the average GM auto worker, weren't they well compensated for their work? Shutting down old factories and moving work to new factories is always going on in the auto industry. Nature of that beast.

Michael Moore- The Awful Truth- UPS - YouTube

The UPS driver in this Michael Moore video is Randy Brown. Randy is now the President of Local 728 and he used to drive a P-500 in my Center. I'm not a Michael Moore fan at all, he is probably one of the biggest hypocrites on the face of the earth. "Roger and Me" was the first thing I saw that he did.

My brother works for GM, their pension is about the same as mine. My brother just started working at the Bowling Green, KY Corvette plant. Its his third transfer, both of the previous plants were shut down. GM has been sending jobs oversees, they are building Cadillacs in China now. As much money GM has lost, they still gave everybody a $7000 bonus a few months back.

Don't forget the layoff program.
GM Janesville - Senior employee would take layoff because he would be paid his wage at 40hrs during layoff.

If you ever read the accounts of actually what went on inside the GM factories, perhaps you'd have a different opinion about auto workers. They were exposed to noxious chemicals, repetitive, stressful, fast-paced work in noisy, and frequently dangerous conditions. Yes, they made a lot of money for a job that didn't require a degree from MIT, but it wasn't an easy job.

You might hate Michael Moore, and he's not a big favorite of mine either, but "Roger and Me" was right on the money. None of these big companies give a crap about the people that work for them.

No kidding, GM was paying their employees 90% of their paychecks when they were laid off. My brother used to plan vacations around contract ending dates. The stories of waste I have heard are amazing. GM used to have 50% of the market, I don't know what they have now. I blame the company for designing lousy cars that the public just didn't want, the employees are just "working as directed". My brother used to be a UAW job steward, he quit because he got tired of trying to defend the same co-workers over and over.

GM has been sending jobs overseas, they are building Cadillacs in China now.

As in China, most of the cars they are building overseas are for cars used outside the US.
The Cadillacs built in China are driven in China and Asia ... for now.
That is a huge advantage of employees in service jobs (like UPS) have over manufacturing jobs.

You can bitch about over paid auto workers all day long but the fact is those BIG paychecks were buying houses, boats, cars, etc that amounted to billions for local economies.

I used to deliver to 2 auto plants in my city that are now shut down and SO MANY OTHER COMPANIES RELATED TO THE AUTO PLANTS ALSO SHUT DOWN. Car haulers, rail workers, print shops, food, etc.

So are we better off outsourcing those jobs in the name of globalization? cough. cough.

The direct impact to UPS alone was in the millions annually of loss revenue.

Its funny how everybody always uses the legend of the lazy auto worker to somehow justify the corporate greed that went down.

I was in those plants for about 60 minutes everyday and those guys worked their asses off doing 12 hour shifts. They made one of the best selling vehicles in America and couldnt produce them fast enough.

My point is I saw first hand how hard these auto workers had to work to keep up with production demand.

Isnt the movie PRO WORKER? Seems like it would be kind of hard to be anti- worker and anti-big business. Theres not much wiggle room.

Micheal Moores movie clearly represented the American worker.

I've always thought of him as being Anti-Capitalist and Pro-Blue Collar Worker.
He is basically all about Michael Moore which is fine but which I find a bit hypocritical.
I like his movies which presents a hard line one sided Socialist point of view.
His points are mainly just pointing out what is wrong with Capitalism and Corporate machinations in their impact on individuals and society.

Hopefully, as a society via our laws, we can find that balance between people with initiative and fiscal responsibility and the less fortunate.

Yes these are the types of benefits that bankrupt companies. I know prison guards that can use a sick day then go in for the night shift and get paid overtime for that whole shift.

We don't have any stupid high end benefits like that. We get a lot of vacation that's about it but you gotta work a long time to get that vacation.

Michael Moore tries to act like he loves the working man, but I believe it is just an act. I saw behind the scenes stuff about a couple of his movies, he treated the workers like they were 3 year olds. If he truely liked the working person, he wouldn't have done that.
I think it's just his niche to appear pro-worker and anti-big business to make himself rich.
