About 660 drivers for United Parcel Service's Supply Chain Solutions unit have won preliminary approval of a $12.8 million settlement of their two lawsuits that claimed they were misclassified as independent contractors while being treated as employees, said Lynn Rossman Faris, an Oakland, Calif., attorney representing the drivers.
UPS spokeswoman Susan Rosenberg said she did not know how drivers in the lawsuit worked in Pennsylvania. UPS still uses independent contractors for transporting goods for its supply chain solutions unit, but it has made changes to its business model to comply with the federal Fair Labor Standards Act, Rosenberg said.
