Globe and mail:
UPS says it will expand its Canadian network by opening its own operations in Atlantic Canada next April, creating about 250 jobs. The package delivery giant said it will begin pickup and delivery services in Moncton and Halifax, replacing its current agent. UPS says it will add other cities to the network later in 2012. The expansion involves a multimillion-dollar investment from the company based in Mississauga which is part of the UPS, a global package delivery company based in Atlanta, Ga.
They are offering jobs in NB NS PEI and Newfoundland to any ft driver with no loss of seniority.

Most of those will be long-day jobs with a lot of windshield time.

How do you figure they create 250 jobs ?
They have it under contract, and those contract workers (drivers) probably only work 8 hrs per day.
UPS will cut many contract drivers and hire their own and make them work 11-12 hrs per day, like everywhere else !

It's a job loss , not a gain !

The can't create more non-union jobs that involves any type of package movement.

You misunderstood. Currently UPS isn;t in Atlantic Canada, but they use contracters to deliver UPS packages.
Now UPS will deliver thier own packages instead (with UPS trucks and drivers).

Where is the job gain ?

Yup, and putting 300 independant drivers out of work that are under UPS contract.

Kinda like when DHL went under in the US.
Good news, UPS hired another 1000+ drivers.

Bad news: More DHL drivers have been let go than UPS hired to replace them.

Klein's right. A job gain for UPS offset by a job loss for the region.

Won't they be allowed to apply?
