Thomas will lead small package operations in eight districts covering 25 states.

UPS (NYSE:UPS) today said it has promoted Charlene Thomas to West Region President, responsible for small package business operations in 25 states, succeeding George Willis, who took the role of UPS President of U.S. Operations.

“We’re pleased Charlene has accepted the role of West Region President,” Willis said. “She has deep experience in UPS operations as well as broad business experience in other facets of the company. Charlene is an excellent fit for this key role.”

Thomas’s most recent position at UPS was North Atlantic District Manager where she led UPS small package operations. Previously, she worked on the company’s Global B2C Strategy and other marketing projects. She also held other important operations positions, managing air operations in Philadelphia as well as district ground operations in Alabama.

Thomas began her career in 1989 as a part-time employee in West Chester, Pennsylvania. After a promotion into management in 1992, she gained experience in a variety of roles in package and hub operations, as well as sales and marketing.

Thomas earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Temple University and her MBA from Eastern University. She has served on the board of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee and continues to serve as an executive board member for Habitat for Humanity.
