The fatal crash of a United Parcel Service Inc. (UPS) freighter plane near Dubai in September is not being linked to the recent discovery of explosive devices hidden in cargo shipments from the region, investigators said Sunday.
The United Arab Emirates' General Civil Aviation Authority, or GCAA, said in a statement that it had "eliminated the possibility of an onboard explosion" on the UPS Boeing 747-400F that crashed on Sept. 3 as its pilots tried to return to Dubai after a fire broke out, filling the cockpit with smoke. Both flight crew died in the incident.
