What's the deal with UPS starting much at a much higher rate of pay for part timers in some areas. Is this a temporary thing or is it permanent and going to go back down soon?

UPS can't get people in those low cost of living areas to come to work or apply. So they raised the pay to attract them.

Where you are they are not at that certain point yet.

I remember they paid 10 an hour to start 8 years ago. If you take a job for ups an hour as a part time can they lower it back down or do you stay at that rate and get pay raises from there?

Yeah it's ridiculous. We in the 396 area make $15/hr because contract says we go with whatever is higher, contract or minimum wage. We have a high cost of living and a ridiculously high gas tax. Even with the .33 cent COLA raise and the August raise, we will make $16.23.

Meanwhile the Cola raise only applies from the master if the "national average" cost of living index is increased by a certain percentage. Here in the 162 a 2 bed 2 bath house now goes for over 400k easy and we don't qualify for the Cola raises because it's not nationally. Hopefully there is just enough Spike across the nation to get a Cola raise before the market crashes...

It's a vicious cycle
it's simple supply and demand. HCOL areas are high cost because they have more people than reasonably fit. with a surplus of people there gonna be a bunch that are underemployed and desperate for work. LCOL areas are low cost because there is more than enough space, with less people they're less desperate and cost more to employ.
