To all: As you may know, many employees will be receiving increased pay in the future of this contract. That means we need to increase profits by cutting the fat to pay for it.

For discussion: What would you cut to save money and why ? Please be as detailed as possible.

I think the company should cut their probationary/qualification system and re-write it. It costs thousands of dollars to train employees and to disqualify them for little things is a waste of money. Those that get disqualified or don't make their probation should be given notice to increase performance and given more training/guidance before they are let go.

They go over production, and in our contract it says if a driver trying to make book needs more days, they can have more but it's classroom time. When a new hire is struggling bad it's hard to watch, and worse if he's not given the proper training where he or she needs it. Each person has their strengths and weaknesses.

On the other hand its painful to watch a trainee struggling when its obvious they just don't have what it takes and will never make book, but they still are given the full 30 days to fail.

I think they should cut out stuff like safety awards and Circle of honor banquets. and while they're at it, Why give employees a free turkey for Christmas? Bah, Humbug! out with the bird! You know, anything that seems like kudos for doing a job well that cuts into management's bonuses! oh, wait. never mind. been done. Jim Casey is probably spinning in his grave.
