The IBT and UPS had no belief or expectation that the National Master would reach a 50% participation rate. None. It was not going to happen. The UPS Teamsters have never reached the 50% voter participation rate in any Master Contract. Most Teamsters do not have a copy of theIBT constitution. Here, in 243, an IBT constitution is not issued to every member. The Local does not even let the members know it exists. The vast majority of members believed a simple majority would suffice to vote it down. Heck; even the UPS Corporate Brass thought it was actually voted down. The IBT mailings used scare tactics. "You risk a work stoppage" No :censored:. That is why we had a strike vote. Tell the members something they did not know. 50% must vote or a 2/3 No must be attained. Ignore an overwhelming strike vote but force a voted down contract thru. Idiots. A Company Controlled Union no doubt. One needs to look no further than the B Rose Fisher treason and the lack of any response from the IBT. But; for some reason; no IBT mailing, UPSrising App. notification, and nothing on the UPSrising website about the 50% voter participation threshold. It is very important that you vote....but nothing about your vote not mattering unless an unprecedented event occurred. The IBT postcards may as well have been UPS postcards. friend N Company Controlled Union. If I had to guess; somewhere between 30% and 40% of the eligible voters in 243 will cast a vote. The effort by the rank and file to promote voting on the 243 Rider is admirable. We are doing all we can. The reality is that a transient part time workforce (for the most part) votes in a much lower percentage than Full Time career UPSer. Will the Master Vote count broken down into Full Time votes and Part Time votes be disclosed? A simple majority vote will fix this broken system. Hard working UPSers who care enough to vote should have a Union Leadership that cares enough to make sure those UPSers votes mean something. The Hoffa/Hall/Taylor team is reprehensible. If they were actually representing the members; the IBT would have changed the constitution. The IBT knew this contract would be voted down. Garbage. We will keep voting these POS out.
