Message: <blockquote data-quote="vantexan" data-source="post: 4593932" data-attributes="member: 24302"><p>Japan fought a war with Russia in the early 1900's and kicked their ass.  A major reason the communists were able to take power.  They had already overrun China in the 30's, quite some time before Pearl Harbor.  Not many people are aware but the U.S., after taking over the Philippines at the end of the Spanish-American War fought a war with the Filipinos in the early 1900's.  After that was settled they built schools all over the country.  The Spanish kept the Filipinos divided with 4 or 5 major languages and close to 200 dialects.  After 300 years only about 10% spoke Spanish.  Due to the American influence the majority speak English as a second language and it's the language of business.  Those were Filipinos fighting alongside Americans against the Japanese.</p></blockquote><p></p>
