Why Does This Affect Me So Much?

I apologize if this is too long.

Big snow/rain storm in the northeast today so we began a bit early so we could be back no later than 5:30 pm. I had one mis-sort to deliver.

I view scheduled pickups as the priority. If I have time and can get the mis-sorts off, I do. But I would won’t let them make me late. I was doing ok until I got to my daily FedEx Office stop. Mondays are heavy because stuff collects over the weekend. There’s an earlier Monday sweep that helps me a lot. Not today.

Very heavy volume, which was fine, except it held me there for quite a while. Dispatch noticed and reassigned some stops.

When I got back I didn’t know how to stat the mis sort so I asked a manager. He was very stern and was clearly conveyed by his tone that I was wrong not to make an attempt. But we figured out how to scan it.

My own manager was fine with it, especially because delivering the package would have made me late. But I got back by the time I was told to return.

Is there a course in management training that teaches them to make employees feel bad? Rationality I know I acted correctly. But dealing with this manager really bothered me.

Some managers just suck. They have no people skills and never should have become managers. Ignore it and deal with your own manager.

I have the opposite problem at my station. My own manager is “excitable” and the PM guy is so laid back. Nothing phases him.

FedEx management attracts people like Dano who have never succeeded at anything except hitching his wagon to Fat Freddy. This gives them a sense of power and accomplishment which they try to lord over normal people like you who are there to make an income instead of using your job to try to relieve your insecurities like they do. Consider the source, and enjoy the rest of the night without a care in the world.

Ok, thanks. Other than moments I described, I get along well with this guy and usually find him helpful and supportive. My manager is extremely good, fair in treating people, supportive. She told me that as long as she has a job, I have one. For all that may be worth.

It’s possible that the jerk manager had something completely unrelated on his mind when he responded to you. I know I’ve done it myself. Either way, shake it off. Definitely don’t give that crap free rent space in your head. Be safe, do your best and friend em if they don’t like it.

Well, ok then. One person’s complaint or situation is another’s whining. Other than this, LEO, dispatchers and ALL the other things I’ve posted, how can you suggest it’s a litany of whine?

You’re entitled to opine.

Of course not. You don't have the business aptitude, the quantitative skills, nor the analytical ability.
And? I’m not in the field of business, so what’s your point? No one is impressed by how far you made it at box company. Why are you so insecure if you’re such a big wig?

Of the whole post, this is the part that amazes me. When I did PUP routes, they never 'noticed'. I would always need to call them
Worked with a guy who got the trots on his PM route once many years ago. Wound up with about ten late pick ups, dispatch never said anything. Manager asked him the next morning what happened.

I usually do have to call or send a message. There is a particular dispatcher who pays attention.

My dispatcher is new and clueless. Frankly, he sucks. Our outbound CTV leaves earlier than at many stations. One Friday I told the dispatcher my ETA back to station was five minutes before CTV departs and I had one outbound piece. I pulled up to the station and the truck was pulling away. WTH?? He never let the PM manager know. Fortunately, someone lived not too far away from the airport (an hour and 15 minutes away) and was able to take my package up there.

the thing with capitalism is it concentrates power into a few hands. over time being exposed to this kind of power corrupts. this is what socialist book lord of the rings was about. so ur probably dealing with managers who've been manager for too long.

plus the mantra "greed is good" has been the dominant ethic for 40 years, your well being be damned.
