That number is better than Vernon <a href="https://www.barrons.com/articles/ups-fedex-shares-carry-upside-1530555061?mod=hp_RTA" target="_blank">expected</a>, allowing UPS to hire employees with more flexible roles and consequently gives the company greater flexibility in its cost structure.
