Early in my career I had a delivery to an elderly couple. They were probably in their 70's. The man was about 5' 6" and 120 lbs soaking wet. He told me he was going to open up the packages to make sure they weren't damaged before he signed. I told him he couldn't do that. He went off on this tangent about how 10 years or so ago, he had a package delivered by UPS that was damaged, and he was STILL waiting for UPS to pay the claim. He even pulled the 10 year old receipt out of his wallet to show me. He started tearing into the boxes anyway. I told him once again he wasn't allowed to do that. He said something to the effect of "I think I can probably whoop your ass if need be." I was about 23 years old, 6' and about 230 lbs and the best shape of my life. His wife was off to the side watching. I walked over to her to try to reason with her. I told her that her husband had threatened me and If I had to defend myself, he would probably get the raw end of the deal. I'd never harm anyone that old in reality. She told him "honey, just sign for them, I'm sure they are fine." He signed and I left. Nobody was the worse for wear.
