UPS Triples The Size Of Louisville Package Facility

$300 million ground sorting facility expansion addresses package growth, to add 300 jobs

UPS (NYSE:UPS) announced it will triple the size of its “Centennial” ground package sorting facility in Louisville and will nearly double package processing rates. Separate from UPS Worldport® international air hub, this project will cost an estimated $300 million and should be substantially completed by 2018. At this site, UPS plans to add more than 300 jobs – a mix of full- and part-time positions – over the course of the project with recruitment starting in 2017. This is one of many hub modernization projects UPS is executing.

UPS has opened another next generation driver training facility in Menlo Park, CA. The new UPS Integrad® facility bolsters UPS’s growing portfolio of advanced training sites, increasing the pace of preparing UPS drivers to serve customers safely and efficiently.

“Helping new UPS drivers to meet our high standards requires that we adapt new training techniques and tools,” said Joe Finamore, UPS vice president of Global Leadership and Talent Development. “This new building will improve use experiential training in a next generation curriculum that better prepares UPS drivers.”

UPS Deploys 18 New Zero Emission Electric Trucks In Texas

Fleet is Part of Clean Air Project with U.S. Department of Energy, Local Governments and Non-Profit

UPS (NYSE:UPS) today announced the deployment of 18 electric, zero emission delivery vehicles to the Houston-Galveston area in Texas. The truck purchases are the result of a partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), local governments and non-profits. These vehicles, designed and built specifically by the Workhorse Group for the “stop and go” needs of a UPS delivery truck, will avoid the consumption of an estimated 1.1 million gallons of diesel fuel over 20 years.

Why 8,737 UPS retirees are bracing for pension cuts – CNN

UPS earned more than $3 billion last year. But 8,737 of its former workers could see their pension checks cut next summer.

The problem is that some UPS retirees receive their pensions from the cash-strapped Central States Pension Fund, which covers hundreds of thousands of workers from different companies. That fund says it needs to make cuts in order to keep from running out of money.

The UPS Foundation Sets Global Goal To Plant 15 Million Trees By The End Of 2020

Awards $2.5 million in environmental grants

The UPS Foundation, the philanthropic arm of UPS (NYSE: UPS) which leads the company’s global citizenship programs, today announced  it will fund the planting of 15 million trees by the end of 2020. Since 2012, The UPS Foundation and its environmental partners have planted more than 5 million trees in 46 countries.

The UPS Foundation also awarded more than $2.5 million in grants to 12 non-profit organizations dedicated to environmental sustainability. These awards will support programs that advance environmental research and education, carbon reduction and energy conservation – all vital to economic growth and community stability.
