2% raise in October

We had a guy(bald) ask for hat and they told him the same thing, no money for hat. So one day he brings a dark blue Nike hat. The SM said, you know you cant wear that hat. The courier said, "Doctor said I must wear cover on my head, with my fair skin I could get a melanoma." Guess what? he got his new hat. Imagine if that courier gets skin cancer on his head and he has documentation with his doctor that his employer not only refused to provide a hat but forbid him from wearing his own? Now imagine the huge settlement. I'd say go to you doctor and let him/her know your job has you in the sun for over 9 hours a day and will not let you wear cover on your head.

We had a similar situation with a former SM. A 25+ year courier was wearing a black Under Armour Cold Gear shirt under her uniform during winter and he told her she need to take a Sharpie and color in the white "UA" logo on the collar because "You don't work for them". She told him she would do it if the company reimbursed her since they weren't providing sufficient cold weather clothing. He didn't have much to say after that.

I only want the hat to keep the rain out of my face when it's bad out, I still have hair left to protect my noggin. Plus, the doctors visit would probably cost more than the hat would. I applaud him on forcing them to provide him his hat though I bet it sucks getting burned on the top of your head.

The whole discussion of a "raise" is irrelevant, because the net effect of their overall program will be a reduction in take-home pay, Your net income will be reduced no matter what. The question you need to ask management is "What will my total compensation package be?" They can cut the already crappy PPP, they can reduce minimums, they can raise specialist co-pays to $100, or cut the dental from 50% to 40%. How about eliminating Tuition Refund? Everybody has a different way that Fred can take an additional "something" away. And he will. Change your focus to what the man behind the curtain is really doing. That 2% means nothing if you're losing 5% elsewhere. You will be screwed again...count on it.

Example;

Driver makes 20 dollars an hour. 2% = .40 cent raise. If he has had his hours cut to 38 per week, his raise is 15.20 a week. Compared to the 40 dollars he would have made off those two hours he is now in the hole another 24.80 or 99.20 for the month.

I count currency in terms of McD's cheeseburgers. The cost of one is $1.01. When I get a raise, that extra cent is hard to factor in to calculate my new pay. At my current rate, I make 26.4 cheeseburgers per hour. Not bad.

I thought Ground pay was calculated in Cheetos and Mountain Dew. Thanks for setting me straight bro'.

Hopefully this shows up, first time posting a picture....

Anyways this strip ran in the local paper the other day. It was posted around the station multiple times. I like to imagine our SM as the pointy haired boss.

Probably giving myself away to the lurkers on the board from my station but oh well.

Dilbert is exactly correct, and that's exactly what FedEx employees are doing these days...the level of work that is commensurate with what they are paid. This is the essence of WAD. Do the minimum, work as directed, and always let them make any operational decisions. For what we are paid, we should do NOTHING extra. In fact, we all need to slow down, and do far less.

Just heard that salaried express employees aren't getting raises until oct 2014.

And no one in ground got over 2% in my building.

They are however getting an AIC bonus for FY14. (Formula to be determined). That could go way above what they would have gotten with a raise. My guess is this is the only carrot they can put in front of the ops managers to crack the whip.

Yikes. Did they all get sandbagged on their reviews? Did the station as a whole tank it for the year? I don't believe anyone here got below 3%, I got 6% and somebody else got 11%(promoted).

I'll believe the raise fairy paid me a visit when I see it on my paycheck. I will believe the raise, if there is one, will be far less than the $2063 a year they took from me when they cut my hours back a couple months ago.

Fear not! Fred's going to make it all up to us one day - and then some! We'll get real raises - every 6 months, and BPP and all sorts of wonderful bonuses and stuff. And excellent healthcare benefits at no to very-little cost to the employee. And we'll have family briefings again, with open bar - 4 times a year! And then you'll be glad you never signed that wretched union card. And you'll be able to jeer at those few ingrates who did.

You'll see, all of you will see.....one day

ooops!, forgot to mention just one thing
my preceding post is representative of the mindset of the average, typical, everyday Express employee whom most of us here interact with on a near-daily basis.

Believe it
