ROCHESTER, Ind. (WANE) - This morning, at approximately 6:30 a.m., officers from the Indiana State Police, the Rochester Police Department, and the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department responded to a single vehicle crash on U.S. 31 at State Road 14, which killed a Tipton, IN, man.
Preliminary investigation by Master Trooper Randy Pryor revealed that Robert L. Bozell, 53, Tipton, IN, was driving a 1998 International semi-tractor, pulling two box style trailers, southbound on U.S. 31. For an unknown reason, the semi-tractor traveled into the grass median and struck a concrete pillar which supports an overpass carrying State Road 14 over U.S. 31.
Bozell was pronounced dead at the scene by Fulton County Coroner Darin Beeker. He was wearing his seat belt but the impact from the crash was too severe to prevent his death.
The semi-tractor was registered to United Parcel Service (UPS). The trailers contained various consumer items which were picked up at a UPS center in Chicago, IL. The load was destined for a UPS center in Kokomo, IN.
The overpass carrying State Road 14 over U.S. 31 was inspected for damage by representatives from the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT). There was no structural damage found.
