[QUOTE="Ricochet1a, post: 994094, member: 22880"] Express Saver will be eliminated as a shipping option for customers. Customers who currently use Express Saver will have two options 1) Choose to utilize 2nd Day Express shipping, 2) Choose to utilize FedEx Ground. In this "go around", there will be no FedEx volume shifting - THE CUSTOMER will be forced to "shift" how their volume is moved. In a couple of years time, when the DELIVERY of 2nd Day volume is shifted over to Ground, the Express line haul system will still be used for the movement of this volume, BUT it will be "shifted" over to Ground delivery ops for final delivery. There isn't going to be any "cross utilization" between the opco's at this stage. Again, the CUSTOMER will make the decision as to how their current volume moving by Express Express Saver will be moved. Express Saver WON'T "become" anything - it will simply disappear. Express Saver was initiated as an option back before Ground was owned by Express (fairly certain of this - the "old timers" can give a better date as to when Express Saver was implemented). Express did this in order to utilize their underutilized linehaul capacity at the time, and to grab some volume from UPS that Express otherwise didn't have a prayer of getting. With FedEx's acquiring of Ground, the Express 3rd day product has become obsolete. 80% of actual shipment volume tendered to Ground can be delivered to its intended destination within 3 days - making the need to offer 3rd day service through Express redundant. With the push to squeeze out capacity within the linehaul system of Express, the decision was made (will be publically announced shortly) to simply stop offering customers the option of 3rd day shipping through Express.
