I wonder why they spent so much money to raise it up and tow it away to be scrapped. It seems like it would have been easier to just cut most of it up on site.

My understanding was that the reason the ship was "raised" before scrapping was because of it's location in an environmentally sensitive area. Pretty impressive job actually just uprighting it. The real raising comes later.
