The West did not give any of their future pension contributions to the IBT/UPS or the UPS Pension Fund. Those under those two plans do not get any weekly monetary contributions, they are funded at the end of the year to cover their negotiated obligations only. Remember also that UPS will offset those improvements when those retirees reach age 65 with any vested service under Central States. Every growing year in that plan saves the Company billions, add to that them eliminating future pension obligations for their management people, which will save them 1 to 2 billion annually.. they got their (cost neutral) goal by forgoing any additional increases in their monetary pension contributions and transferring them to our GWI’s. That 600 to 1,000 increase in their pension plan had been long overdue, the UPS Pension Plan for our part timers and any service prior for our current full timers is a joke compared to the other conferences. Our part timers will get less than a 200 dollar increase over the next 5 years and that is capped at 35 years. Now compare that to those part timers in the West under Peer 84, what will they get with 35 years service that isn’t capped. Twice or even three times as much..? Do not blame us if UPS had total control over our pension benefits and are more than willing to manipulate them without any fear from the International, they been doing that for decades now. There were “private understandings” that we are privy enough to know back when UPS bought out of the Central in 2007…maybe that is why we have been seeing total weakness with any improvements over the years with the Central and Southern supplements and related Riders. Had this Contract been scripted right after the last one is anyone’s guess, it is plausible.
