Do you driver release? I'd be calling for help like it was going out of style.
That day was about 60 stops commercial and 80 residential and, yes, I driver release.

pkg handler-
Have you thought about becoming a HAZMAT Responder? Also if you took the tests and passed that means that you never have to take them again. Irrelevant of whether they "say" there is a hiring freeze, make sure you put your letter of intent in. That not only informs your management of your interest, it is also forwarded to HR so that everone in your region is aware that you are looking to go PT SUP. Either way...Stay Persistant.

well I was told after work ( 9:00 ) to stay in the building . The center manager came up to me around 9:30 and asked if i wa still interested in part time supervising. I said yes i was and he explained some things , and we got into salry and all and he asked if i would like to supervise the belt im on now and I said yea definately.. he said he'd have more info during the week and that I would start on mon.
Congrats...you will either love it or hate it...lol. I do have one suggestion for you though. That would be to NOT supervise the belt you are currently working. It makes it an easier transition for you working on a different belt than where you actually came from. You can alwasy go back to it...later once your peers see that you were promoted but initially they will challange you every chance they get b/c your new. Plus these are the people you have been working with for however long and you have to be able to re-establish yourself as a leader (even if you always were) not a co-worker.
Best of luck to ya!!
thanks for the reps ..!! from whoever it was i had 0 for the longest time lol
I like how these guys think they got promoted. In my building the full time sups go around begging part timers to become sups because they are short supervisors, no one wants in.
well if by these guys you mean me.. then yes it is a promotion in my building . There are p/t who put in letters and fail the test constantly.. i know lol ...but every p/t supe i asked said the job is worth it .. in my center alot of the p/t supes even go driving after some yrs too .. seen it happen to 2 of them already .. so its not all bad
Would that be because they are going for a full time sup job though?
Maybe I'm way wrong..but I don't get how a p/t sup could jump into a full time driver spot even after years.
why not .. ? I've seen it happen a guy who ran a boxline like 1 or 2 over near the front of the building recently ( like 4 months ago ) went driving from being a p/t supe and another one is starting the transition now. Some say its harder to go from mnge. to driver then going from part time to full time union .. I think it equals out but it favors the union ppl in the end a bit I suppose
I hope to some day down the road to become a driver .. it seems in this building for union its part time then full time then driver ( the process could take any number of yrs ) for mngt it seems you can jump from p/t supe to driver down the road also.. seems like the right choice for me now as I need the extra tuition money and the increase money. Im on really good terms with the center manager and he kinda has taken me under his wing . When i first came i was cocky, disgruntled , just all out a unhappy person , but i worked my ass off and got the rep for being the best loader this side of the building. He worked with from the beginning when there were times I could have been disciplined but wasnt either. Now I'm in a position to do something more after 8 months here and to move up and hopefully one day become a driverIt is not uncommon for P/T sups to accept a driving position, just as it is not uncommon for a driver to accept a mgt position. My on-car drove for 15 years. I know, the adage of "those who can't drive-- supervise" will be brought up, but he was actually a very good driver who made what at the time was a good career move for him as the stock options alone put his 2 daughters and will put his son through college. However, he has told me that if given the choice today, with the way the company is being run (in to the ground?), he would have stayed a driver without a doubt.
