If you have a cigarette lighter socket in the truck ( do you?) then problem solved. the boom box runs on dc current and the cigarette lighter provides 12 volt dc. How to use it? Go to a radio shack and buy a dc converter that allows you to plug into your cigaretter lighter( very similar looking to what you plug in to charge your cell phone). From the body of the device are two wires that lead to a variety of different fittings that may or may not fit into your xm fitting. If not cut off the fittings from the dc converter leaving two exposed wires. Strip the insulation off the ends leaving about an inch of exposed wire on both ends. Attach an alligator clip to each end . Put some electrical tape around the bottom of the clip for good measure. Now open up the compartment where you install the expensive batteries for your boombox(remove batteries, duh) and attach one alligator clip to the spring(that was easy) and the other clip to the flat metal clip (where the top of the battery goes, not so easy) . Now there are settings on dc converter for 12,9, 7.5, 6, 4.5 volt. Choose 12 volts. And now pay attention, this is important. Dc currents flows in one direction unlike ac current. Your device will only work with dc flowing in one particular direction. If it flows in the wrong direction, device won't work and after 5 seconds or so, the transistors will be damaged and your device will never work. So there is a polarity setting on dc converter + or - . Which one to use? 50 50 chance. Start with a - setting, plug convertor into cigarette lighter socket and hit power button on boombox, if it doesn't light up immediately(ie your display doesnt go on) remove dc convertor immediately from cigarette lighter. Change setting to +. Do it again. If it doesn't light up remove dc convertor from cig lighter for safety. One of your alligator clips isn't attached properly. Get the idea? If it works, close the battery compartment taking care not to cut wires leave a little slack within compartment so that if wire gets pulled , stress doesn't pull clips off. I hope this makes sense to you. I could say more but i hate to think how much space this is taking.
