GLENDORA >> A driver died when his UPS truck went through a guardrail and hit a tree on the eastbound 210 Freeway to the southbound 57 Freeway transition road early Wednesday morning.
Coroner’s spokesman Brian Elias said Kenneth Johnson, 55, died at the scene. Johnson is from San Diego, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP closed three freeway lanes, a transition road, an off-ramp and an on-ramp due to the 2:15 a.m. crash near Lone Hill Avenue.
CHP Officer Rodrigo Jimenez said the UPS truck, a 2009 International big rig, was being driven on the eastbound 210 Freeway to the southbound 57 Freeway transition road at an unknown speed.
He said the UPS truck ran off the roadway to the left, went through a guardrail and struck a tree.
“Alcohol or drugs are not suspected to be a factor,” Jimenez said. He added that the cause of the solo crash is still under investigation.
CHP Officer Dion Conley said a SigAlert was issued around 4:30 a.m. for three lanes on the eastbound 210 Freeway, west of the 57 Freeway. The CHP also closed the eastbound 210 Freeway transition road to the southbound 57 Freeway, the Sunflower Avenue on-ramp to the eastbound 210 Freeway and the Lone Hill Avenue off-ramp.
