I think we have settled on a hotel in Santa Fe, and then a scenic drive to the Rio Grande National Forest in South Central Colorado. It's looks to be about an hour east of Alamosa.

It seems pretty huge.

And then as long as it's not :censored2:ty weather, a night and day stay at the Mt. Princeton Springs Resort. Then off to Colorado Springs to have fun and see family there and in Denver.

Looks like you won't be going to the western side of the state. As mentioned earlier, Durango is a nice town with lots of hiking, camping, parks and the like nearby. It's also 7,000 ft in elevation with many mountain passes nearby for the full high terrain effect.

You'll be in Colorado.
Buy the pot.
Smoke it up.
You'll have the appetite of someone who hiked a few miles and you won't wear out your hiking boots or be in danger of falling off a cliff.
You will actually feel rested after vacation where normally you are still stressed afterwards.

Actually , I was a teen in the 60's and I've never smoked pot or did any drug. Not too many people can say that.
