Probably they didn't raise your dues on the last raise you got, so they are retroactively taking dues. Just a guess which is what any of us can do.

I'm ready to retire any year now and Local 344 needs your extra cash to shore up my pension. Besides, with you following ORION and making all that extra money what's 10 bucks?

I never got an answer what my application fee actually goes towards. The union sticks it in new hires. You work for "free" as in no benefits your first year, even though you pay fees. It's how they get $$.
