UPS changed it "model" for supervisors. The time for experienced, loyal and thinking supervisors and managers is a thing of the past. Today, its about "YES MEN", no thinking involved. Atlanta sends the days dispatch to the center PDS, and that PDS has NO AUTHORITY to change, modify or complain about that dispatch. The center manager and sups also have no authority to change or add cars. If cars are cut, then sobeit. If it destroys the day, then sobeit. If it costs UPS three times as much to deliver the days volume, then sobeit. If pickups are missed, then sobeit. If volume is brought back "missed" then sobeit. If misloads go through the roof cause the loop volume is too large, then sobeit. This is todays UPS. The only thing the management at operator level does today is attempt to put bandaids on a severed artery in the PM. If it takes 4 drivers after 6pm to split up 120 stops, then thats the bandaid that works for UPS. Thats 30 stops each and two hours of work each at 59.00 bucks an hour or $472.00. Todays UPS management at operator level is helpless to change this process and the majority of them are too afraid to say anything to Atlanta that they would rather collapse the business day then alarm anyone. Everyday at 430am, the plan comes down, win or lose, its the plan and 99% of the time, its a disaster. In my center, we will ALL average 101K this year and I will hit 105K working 59 hours almost every week this year. The ridiculous amounts of money spent on useless overtime is laughable at best. The company has NO IDEA of how much money is being flushed down the toilet on a daily basis. Let me give you an example. At one hub here in so cal, the company planned ahead and took out all the gasoline pumps and replaced them with diesel pumps. They were planning in advance of a law in california NOT BEING PASSED, that would force them to replace all diesel package cars with unleaded cars. They guessed wrong, and the law passed. Now they dont have regular unleaded pumps in the yards anymore, and UPS has to issue credit cards to all drivers to use at RETAIL GASOLINE stations for fuel. They started to replace the diesels with gas trucks and the drivers going to the stations are filling up with PREMIUM gas at full tilt at the pumps. If they had pumps in the yard, they would get gas at wholesale prices instead of FULL BANG RETAIL. The new trucks have a 36 gallon tank and it takes about 144 bucks to fill it with premium. The company is WASTING THOUSANDS of dollars each week just on FUEL. Hey, but what do we know, were just teamster truckers. peace TOS
