[QUOTE="The Other Side, post: 823354, member: 17969"] The problem I have with what was said by a few on this board (over and over on many threads) is the inclusion of Bill Ayers and somehow connecting him to bombings, murders, terrorism etc etc and NOT a shred of proof to confirm any allegations. There are many on this board who merely "repeat" the claims made by glen beck who "vilify" AYERS on a daily basis and yet, not a single CHARGE for any crimes was EVER brought against Bill Ayers in this country. If he was involved in planning, creation and planting bombs, dont you think he would have been charged, arrested , tried and convicted for any of them? Moreluck connects him to bombings of police stations, bombings of the pentagon and making bombs as "IF" it was common knowledge, yet, there is absolutely ZERO evidence that this is true. Ayers is being connected to crimes by BECK merely by "ASSOCIATION", and this somehow suffices for a conviction and proof that he was indeed involved in terrorism. All I am saying is do some fact checking before you smear a college professor with a substantial college education himself. Ayers was arrested for a sit in at a draft board while protesting the involvement in the vietnam war, he was not charged, tried or convicted for this "crime" and was released. The right wing on cable news and am radio simply uses repetition to make something "real". They use this tactic over and over, day in and day out until something that is exaggerated or untrue becomes true to the listener. Once it becomes real to the listener, the listener then repeats this information as if they are speaking the truth. Ayers was a protester of the federal government, there were millions of americans protesting the federal government in the united states during the 60's. There were hundreds of protesting groups and some were violent, but how does this make Ayers a criminal or terrorist? The government prosecuted those members of the weather underground (a hybrid of the weathermen) for any crimes against the country. Moreluck uses a "partial" quote of Ayers (as BECK does) to make him appear as a terrorist. "Ayers has claimed that he “doesn’t regret” setting the bombs, and that he feels “we didn’t do enough.” He later clarified that “we didn’t do enough” did not mean “we didn’t bomb enough :censored:,” but that the nation didn’t do enough to oppose the war." `moreluck Ayers intention was to point out the "ineffectiveness" of the weather undergrounds action against the federal government as no change in policies arose because of the actions of all the protest groups. I am not defending his actions or the actions of the protesting groups, what I am saying is try to understand that Ayers was a rich white kid who opposed the vietnam war and was standing up for minorities. He and his cohorts were all rich educated white kids who came from rich families. ayers: ”I don’t think you can understand a single thing we did without understanding the violence of the Vietnam War,” he said, and the fact that ”the enduring scar of racism was fully in flower.” Mr. Ayers pointed to Bob Kerrey, former Democratic Senator from Nebraska, who has admitted leading a raid in 1969 in which Vietnamese women and children were killed. ”He committed an act of terrorism,” Mr. Ayers said. ”we didn’t kill innocent people.” Mr. Ayers has always been known as a ”rich kid radical.” His father, Thomas, now 86, was chairman and chief executive officer of Commonwealth Edison of Chicago, chairman of Northwestern University and of the Chicago Symphony. When someone mentions his father’s prominence, Mr. Ayers is quick to say that his father did not become wealthy until the son was a teenager. He says that he got some of his interest in social activism from his father. He notes that his father promoted racial equality in Chicago and was acceptable as a mediator to Mayor Richard Daley and the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in 1966 when King marched in Cicero, Ill., to protest housing segregation. Moreluck, what I asked for was a conviction, not supposition. That is what you posted. Peace.
