Will Amazon’s Parcel Delivery Ambitions Disrupt United Parcel Service? - Market Realist

How will UPS be affected?

Industry veterans say it’s virtually impossible for AMZN to replicate the huge hub-and-spoke model that UPS has built over many years. Another view holds that AMZN’s e-commerce competitors may—or may not—trust AMZN’s delivery network for their own deliveries, which makes it the million dollar question. Presently, both Amazon and UPS are trying newer technologies, such as drones, to speed up and innovate their delivery process.

the whole drone delivery story is just hype. could never be a viable method of daily delivery, although it may be adaptable to some unusual situations. they would never be able to fly in inclement weather and insurance companies would never permit them to be used in any location where people or domestic animals could walk into the path of the drone. it seems that amazon is just developing these stories to get better & better rates from the carriers. if our top people were smart, we'd flip the script on them. how about ups monitors amazon's top selling 100 products and buys them in quantity (from china, most likely), stocks them in all of our hubs and promises same day delivery. rather than them entering our game, we start beating them at theirs...
