He was certainly negligent and he made a dumb mistake and had Al and Jesse allowed the prosecution to offer him some sort of plea bargain he may very well have taken it, done his time, forfeited his right to own guns, and soon been forgotten. Instead, we had a divisive and racially charged trial that rightly resulted in an acquittal and a man who still has his gun and who will spend the rest of his life looking fearfully over his shoulder at every black guy he sees.
