Your post is lacking facts. Our institutions of higher education are the gold standard worldwide - tens of thousands of foreigners arrive annually to earn an education, usually with no intentions of permanent residency. Most of our public grade schools offer competitive curriculum and judging by the talent in this country, do a pretty darn good job overall. Yes, by some metrics our public grade schools are lacking, but the reality is that basic mathematic & calculator skills are adequate for most of the population-even basic algebra skills are overkill for everyday quantitative reasoning. And those shows you're referring to... do you think Jay Leno just walks onto Hollywood Blvd and quickly gets his interviews? Seriously? Do you know how many takes are necessary for even just one Jaywalking segment? I did get a good laugh out of your post. Exit polls revealed that highly educated people overwhelmingly voted in favor of Obama. The Republicans rely heavily on uneducated, poverty-stricken Southerns benefiting strongly from social welfare programs - but more zealous in their religious beliefs (banning gay marriage, abortion, etc.) than anything else. And many of the people who voted for Romney couldn't even answer your questions. More B.S. The growth of health insurance premiums was LOWER this year than it has been in years past. Obamacare was designed to bring affordable health care insurance to everyone. People with insurance will benefit by being able to insure their children through college, no longer having maximum payout levels and no longer having to co-pay for essential health services. This means less bankruptcies among, for instance, cancer patients and more people choosing to get routine life-saving screenings (e.g. mammograms, etc.) without worrying about cost. Obamacare will also allow people with cancer, HIV, etc. - but without access to a group plan - to get insurance. Everybody needs health insurance. My uncle declined to pay for it (offered through his employer) and abruptly needed, and received, a liver transplant at a cost of over $1M. Guess who's paying for it? Maybe it'd be fair to say "if you decline health insurance, and you need medical treatment you cannot pay for, then too bad - you die." Sounds very fair to me actually. But not realistic. So Obamacare is asking people to take responsibility for themselves. Even without the medicade expansion, low-income people will still be able to receive subsidies to pay for it. How much those subsidies cost we don't know and won't know for awhile (since we're diverting money already coughed up elsewhere for the uninsured). No question the USA, with the best healthcare in the world, needed some type of reform. It's sickening that a simple mammogram, oral cancer screening, etc. could save somebody's life but is cost-prohibitive to them.
