America pays the most out of ay country on health for healthcare and has mediocre outcomes. . Shouldn't we do something better? We make many people in health care filthy rich at the cost of many lives, and ruining the health of many people. Why is that something you want? for instance, if health care was half as much per person the company would have to pay a lot less in health care and people would have better outcomes.
I glad you brought that up..Currently UPS pays into our Health and Welfare package around 26,000 annually per full time Teamster Union employee. When Obama Care first started their was a so called Cadillac tax that would be applied to private health services that target the well to do or rich, the Teamsters made a deal with Obama to get out of paying that tax because each member would be considered a target due to almost reaching that limit. Also when Obama Care was first on the horizon, the company wanted out of provided our health coverage thinking that the rates would skyrocket and they did, so all of us are under Union Controlled private health insurance in the States. In the Central and Southern with the first vote during 2013 our supplement got voted down so the Union improved our coverages under the Team Care plan with the second vote and it passed barely.
You guys up North are currently voting on your Contract, something like 40 cents per hour on your general wages, the company is not paying for your Health and Welfare packages because you guys are under your countrie's universal programs. Do you have private medical coverage if you retire early? How is your individual Retirement Plans doing and what are they paying per service year or let us say after 30 years of service at age 55? Every major corporate would love to have the Federal government take over and pay for Health and Welfare of their employees, particularly UPS.
Really good luck with your contract that will be forced down you throats, most likely it will be passed and if not it will be passed.. That is one of the reasons that back in the day Ron Carey never allowed a vote back in l995 with our's, he knew full well that if he presented it to his membership less than 50 percent would ever vote on it and it could of passed by frightened members. If your Union Leaders were serious about getting the best contract possible for their membership they would of never allowed a vote, just set a deadline and stick to it....Just study Hoffa's record and everybody can see as UPS once stated "Hoffa...we can work with him" some 20 + years of sub par contracts and you guys are the next victims....
