all that did nothing to pull us out of the depression. FDR became president in 1933 . WWII pulled us out of the depression in 1941

looking at your post though you mike like living in North Korea. they have a lot of similar make work programs going on there.
Not only did the New Deal help keep Americans fed during one of humanities darkest chapters it also helped to keep extremist groups such as the Black legion, UEWM and the German American Bund from gaining an effective foothold in the nation's population.

This pandemic has killed close to 300,000 Americans, approaching half of what the 1918 pandemic death toll, when the understanding of infectious pathogens and the tools to study them were still in their infancy.

I'd say it's worse, given our medical knowledge, and the evolving treatment of COVID patients. Modern medicine is amazing.
Spanish Flu of 1918 killed .5% of the population.

Can you calculate how many .5% of the current population is?

The US population in 1918 was only 104 million . Currently 328 million which in turn means three times as many people are potentially carriers of the virus and we are weeks if not months away from vaccinations in large enough numbers to slow the spread. Moreover nobody knows for sure how long an injection will last. Just imagine the public expenditures that would otherwise be needed to cover the cost of treatment and prevention. Which helps to explain the current funding crisis many states if not the majority are experiencing with no federal help currently forthcoming.

".... it's important to see those who support Trump's coup for who they are: People who have been radicalized, through racism hateful propaganda and a sense of perpetual grievance, against democracy. They aren't going to change their minds because of new facts, because the underlying belief — which is that they deserve to be in power, no matter what — is the problem here. It's a rising American authoritarianism, and we underestimate it at our peril. "

Thanks for stepping in and not answering the question I posed.
Again, can @bottomups calculate .5% of our current population in order to compare the 1918 pandemic to today?

I come up with 1.64 million and at the pace we're going we might just get there by the time the effects of the vaccine come to bear but even so we still don't know for certain how effective the vaccines will be.

depression started in 1929. FDR took office in 1933. unemployment finally got in line in 1941. how did the new deal help anything?

Whatever it did it was certainly better than doing nothing as was the case with Herbert Hoover. And at least we still HAD a nation and a democracy to here to fight for in 1941.

Gave the American people hope. Instead of just telling the American people that the depression will just go away come Spring, like a miracle. The economy did improve through the 30's and people did have more hope. Called leadership. Something the American people are so desperate for right now. Can't wait for January 20th.

Lol, at first you were claiming socialism got us out of the great recession. Now you're reduced to "better than doing nothing". Sadly, even that is probably wrong, liberalism most likely prolonged it.
Wrong. You continue to equate socialism with leadership in a time of crisis. The two could not be more dissimilar. No better example of it than what we have now. A crisis and no leadership at the top.
