Bill Withers, singer of 'Lean on Me' and 'Ain't No Sunshine,' dies at 81
His death from heart complications comes as the public has drawn inspiration from his music during the coronavirus pandemic, with health care workers and more posting their own renditions of “Lean on Me.”

Just DAMN!!!
I love John Prine ... my wife is in tears!

John Prine, revered singer-songwriter, dies of COVID-19 complications at 73

Daddy won't you take me back to Muhlenberg County
Down by the Green River where Paradise lay
Well, I'm sorry my son, but you're too late in asking
Mister Peabody's coal train has hauled it away.

John Prine, who traded his job as a Chicago mail carrier to become one of the most revered singer-songwriters of the last half-century, died Monday of COVID-19 complications, after surviving multiple bouts with cancer. He was 73.
Since he broke through onto the folk scene with his 1971 self-titled debut album, Prine was hailed by critics and his musical peers for his keen observational powers, mordant sense of humor and finely wrought portraits of the human condition, from his trenchant tale of a Vietnam vet’s downward spiral upon his unceremonious homecoming (“Sam Stone”) to his empathetic expressions of the loneliness of old age (“Angel From Montgomery” and “Hello in There”).

He had been hospitalized on March 26 in Nashville with coronavirus symptoms, on the heels of previous hospitalizations for heart issues, in addition to treatments for throat cancer in 1998 and lung cancer in 2013. Both affected his singing voice, but he continued touring regularly up through last year.

Oh.

It’s one thing to die at 73, it’s another to die at 73 of an idiot flu.

That’s really sad, what an amazing musician!

Guy was really a player...

Some people play the guitar for the guitars sake, some people can barely play guitar, but use it for the song.

J Prine did both, and killed it.

RIP

4 years to the day after we lost Merle Haggard!

I had a feeling you would appreciate his talents and wit and ponder on his passing.

Oh, J Prine is a legend, rightfully earned.
I am glad I got to see John a couple years ago at The Fox Theatre in Atlanta.
He was full of fire and put on a great show.
He ended the show singing a song with his wife of 24 years Fiona.
at the end of that song he laid his guitar on the stage, did his imitation of Jimi Hendrix at Monterey when he set his guitar on fire and then danced off the stage like a 'little leprechaun' ... it was funny as hell.

From Fiona Whelan Prine...

Our beloved John died yesterday evening at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville TN. We have no words to describe the grief our family is experiencing at this time. John was the love of my life and adored by our sons Jody, Jack and Tommy, daughter in law Fanny, and by our grandchildren.

John contracted Covid-19 and in spite of the incredible skill and care of his medical team at Vanderbilt he could not overcome the damage this virus inflicted on his body.

I sat with John - who was deeply sedated- in the hours before he passed and will be forever grateful for that opportunity.

My dearest wish is that people of all ages take this virus seriously and follow guidelines set by the CDC. We send our condolences and love to the thousands of other American families who are grieving the loss of loved ones at this time - and to so many other families across the world.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the outpouring of love we have received from family, friends, and fans all over the world. John will be so missed but he will continue to comfort us with his words and music and the gifts of kindness, humor and love he left for all of us to share.

In lieu of flowers or gifts at this time we would ask that a donation be made to one of the following non profits:

Spain's Princess Maria Teresa

Spain's Princess Maria Teresa becomes the first royal to pass away from the novel coronavirus. She was 86. Her death was announced on Facebook by her brother, Prince Sixto Enrique de Borbon, the Duke of Aranjuez.

"SAR Don Sixto Enrique de Borbón communicates that this Thursday, March 26, 2020, has passed away in Paris, at eighty-six years old, his sister Maria Teresa de Bourbon-Parma and Bourbon Busset, victim of coronavirus COVID-19," the statement read. "Don Sixto Enrique is very sorry and begs for prayers for his sister's eternal rest."

Known as the "Red Princess" for her lifelong socialist activism and advocate for women's rights, Maria Teresa was the cousin of Spain's King Felipe IV (via People). According to the publication, the outspoken royal was a "distinguished professor at Paris' Sorbonne and an outspoken professor of Sociology at Madrid's Complutense University."
