[QUOTE="vantexan, post: 5601920, member: 24302"] Guatemala used to be very Catholic. Now more than 50% Evangelical. The converts say that their men have stopped drinking and beating on their women. I don't agree with some of the theology of either group but a good thing is a good thing. Whatever went on before all we can deal with is right now. No matter how much you hate Christianity the Catholic Church in the past got indigenous groups to stop human sacrifice and cannibalism in various parts of the world. There were priests and nuns in the past who are greatly admired by locals for the good they did. There was a time when the Catholic Church dominated much of the known world and if a high minded young person wanted to live a life of good works and service that was the path available to them. No matter the corruption of the hierarchy there have always been good people trying to make a difference in the world through the Church. That is why Christianity is still a relevant force for good today. There are flaws because humans are flawed. But trying to characterize Christianity as bad and evil and hypocritical always falls flat because there are sincere people who prove every day by the lives they live that there's a better way than giving in to decadence and immorality.
