For Paid Family Leave (bonding time) you’ll have to pay federal taxes on the income but not state. They will not withhold any taxes for you, so make sure to do that yourself. Or don’t. You get a debit card and a BofA account that it’s direct deposited into. You can link your bank to the BofA account so you can transfer the money out of it.

I just used it. You get 8 paid weeks from the state of California. Use the EDD website, actually pretty easy. FMLA will give you a total of 12 weeks off from work keeping your bennies intact, so go ahead and take that last month unpaid if you can afford it.
