Me also on several points. Dad passed when I was 7 Mama never remarried, have one sister. Paper route from 12-16 years old 7 days a week 365 a year, until I could get a "real job" at Red Lobster. (now I'm 49 and have a "paper route", I reminded my Mama of that the other day and she smiled). I have a job, and a good one. It does pay better and I have benefits, more than most around here. It kind of sucked when I was a kid but that was my choice. Had to get a sub to go fishing in Canada, could rarely spend the night at a friends house on Fri or Sat night. The one thing I liked about it was I was 14 years old and always had $50.00 to $75.00 on me. I liked to make money but I liked to spend it too. "wants and needs" The vets are still being cared for and no children are going without milk. At the same time we can "Pay" government employees to "cone off" or barricade national parks that "WE" paid for that are normally open to the public without staff. Even President Clinton didn't do that during the "shutdown" back then. The POTUS takes the cake on this one... The term counter productive sure comes to mind very quickly. Divide and conquer. Another reason I love my job most days is because I'm out in the public, just like all of us. A lot of people need assistance I see them. I also see the folks every WEEK in line at the food pantry in Chilhowie and Saltville in very nice cars, smoking cigarettes while they are waiting on the "free cheese". I deliver medical supplies to the bed ridden. I deliver cell phones to the twenty-thirty year old's as well. Sure we need government but we could cut government spending, employees by 25% and NEVER miss them. I know, been there done that at all three "levels" of government. Keep in mind my 3rd part time job that pays 1.00 a year. I talk the talk, but walk the walk as well. I have been doing that for 17 years now, but again that is my choice. That is my time I donate to the local "government" because I love that "job" most days as well. BOTH parties are guilty of overspending. I would also like to remind everyone how Senator Obama voted on the debt ceiling increase while he was in the Senate, he didn't vote "present" on that one but NO. More government is not the answer, look at the financial situation in many cities. We are financially ruined already, we just don't know it yet.
