In the United States of America, National elections are held every year ending in a even number in early November.
This is 2018 and therefore the office of 1/3 of the Senators and all of the offices of the Representatives were up for election.
Prior to this election in year 2018, the Republicans held more Representative seat than the Democrats.
After the election, the Democrats held around 40 offices than the Republicans.

The market looked as the Dims being in charge of the House as a negative effect on US Businesses and Corporations. Accordingly, the Stock Market has taken a dive since the day after the election.
Coincidentally, or maybe not, the day after Trump was elected, the market took off upward.

Therefore, the Speaker of the House position is up for election and the assumed person to take that position is Nancy Pelosi.
