Yes u can deduct it. Don't know about ez. Also shoes boots and other stuff job related. Question is, do u have enuf deductions to file long form? Otherwise just take the standard deduction. All depends on ur current finances....
Nope, no deduction. That went away years ago.

Yes and no. At the Federal level? Yes, although if the BBB bill passes SALT will be raised from $10K to $80K, which would allow many more to itemize. At the state level? Depends on the state and where they are coupled or decoupled. NY is decoupled which means that you can itemize on your state return whether you itemized or not on your Federal. The deductions are much lower at the state level and depending upon his personal tax situation the OP may be able to write off his boots, union dues, uniform maintenance, etc., on his state return. More often than not, it will be more advantageous, and much easier, to take the standard deductions on both returns.

SALT has been superseded by New START until 2026.

Under the package the Democrats are now pushing, the annual SALT deduction cap would be raised to $80,000 through 2030, before reducing it back to $10,000 in 2031. Then it would expire permanently in 2032. So that means the legislation would give some relief to taxpayers in high-tax states but a cap would actually remain on the books for seven years longer than the Republicans had set.

This is how Democrats frequently lie about the costs of their tax breaks for the wealthy. If they get their way it will never expire. They know that. It's all about fudging the numbers.

Let the wealth pay their fair share. They can always vote out tax and spend liberals if they want lower state taxes.
