Hello all, New member and slightly new Fedex Freight employee (6 months). I'm the type of person when I get a new job that I really research a company. Job reviews, financials, stability, turn over rate etc. I've seen all the bad reviews at Fedex but because it was so hard to find a 2nd job that fit my schedule I went a long with it. My father is a hardcore teamster and has been for 30 years so when I told him I got a job at Fedex he almost blew his wig. I've also always worked union jobs so I know the whole forced production or you're fired game. Onto the dirt. I got hired as a PT dock worker at Fedex freight where my primary responsibilities are loading and unloading freight in Pups and 53 footers. FedEx has certain standards (Bills per hour) they want you to hit but it's attainable without trying to kill yourself. It's a job that you work independently where you don't need to rely on others and supervisors rarely say anything to me or anyone else for that matter. Anyways management doesn't mess with me. The starting pay at $17.66 is pretty good, you're eligible for health Benny's after 6 months, 401k match immediately (although not vested for 12 months). Looking at pay scales I don't see much of a difference in pay from Fedex Freight to UPS freight unless you're talking 3-5 years down the line. Negatives: no paid holidays for PT's. Paid time off is comical to say the least. However they are very flexible with requested time off and don't have issues giving time off although this is considered slow season for freight. I've heard horror stories about Ground and Express but Freight doesn't seem too bad. Why all the hate?
