They are never going to take off anyways so long as every coorporate kid is still seeking to sweep every minor problem under the rug.
NY has some of the best pedestrian infrastructure in the states and yet they really don't have room for all the ebike deliveristas as it is, they still make everything (that is not a car) share a relatively narrow path and none of the intersections are de-signalled or extra-phased to allow greater volumes of pedestrians to cross at once.
At least locally, our (3?,4?) bikes have been used as nothing but a PR stunt in the highest net-gross earning part of town and they were swiftly massacred when pandemic safety issues arose and nobody wanted to spend the money to repair them.
Just like with the sprinter vans, I know a few spots in town where you could go hard on an etrike if they were serious about using them, unlimited U-turns and shorter width, just pop them right up to the apartment door, lol.
Of course with the lowered severity of collision harm the company still won't let you have any fun, man's forced to wear a helmet and safety vest in the bike lane. This is the driver equivelant of padding yourself in foam before getting into your car. In response to OP. He'd look a lot better in just a normal uniform.
