Making Ends Meet

Apparently it is not Fedex' s intention to provide a living wage ..the sooner people realize that the better off they will be. If you must work at Fedex ,get in,get what you need, and get out..You must have an exit strategy otherwise you could go bankrupt.Especially if you come in parttime.Sorry I know that sounds cynical but it is todays reality.

It's ironic but the ones they'd like to get rid of, the higher paid topped out couriers with 4 or 5 weeks of vacation, are the ones who most likely will hang on at least until they get their full pension. They probably won't give up their higher pay to start over somewhere else.

Really, we should work for free? It's not a one way street, they need our productivity to make money. Here's an idea, pay someone who's worked 10 years top pay. Reward them for staying with them, and gives new couriers an incentive to stay and a goal to work towards.

Van you have a welfare mentality. The company owes me, now pay up. Watch Judge Mathis and you will see that Welfare mentality. Come on. Fedex owes you and all of us nothing but 35 hours a week.

Now wait a minute. You just said they don't owe us anything! Here's a news flash for you. FedEx operates in a marketplace competing for employees. If they push us all down to 35 hrs employees will leave. That may be what they want so that they can be majority part-time. Those many thousands of employees who are hurt by this just may become walking anti-FedEx billboards, informing whoever they can that FedEx screwed them and there is no future working for them. FedEx may find that they'll have to greatly increase pay to attract and keep employees. They have a hard enough time keeping part-timers now. This is the Information Age and loyalty is a two way street. You've got a "I've got mine, too bad for you" mentality. And you prove you are a shill. Telling someone they have a welfare mentality when they suggest getting rewarded with top pay for 10 years of hard work proves it. You want the company to do whatever it wants as long as you've got your's. And P.S. I'll put what I've done for FedEx up against anything you've done. Women get accommodated. I've only met a few while working all over the U.S. that pulled their weight and that's not saying much. You've been getting corporate welfare all along.

I do not view my pension as welfare but as the defered compensation I was told it was by FedEx when i was hired.

It sounded something like this....
"No miss potential employee, we dont pay nearly as much as those drivers at UPS but we more then make up for it with a generous pension, (frozen), excellant health insurance, (cost me 4 times more for less coverage today), shift diferantial pay to be away from your family working off shifts, (gone), jumpseat, (gone), etc etc...."
I'm not asking for a handout, just asking for the benefits promised to me by fedex and until mgmt is ready to stand by their commitments, I'm not really interested in going above and beyond for those customers.

It's very obvious you don't understand Socialism, at least anything other than the Fox news version you have apparently been hearing. Socialism is a state where the government owns the means of production. Is that the case at FedEx? No...not even close. The Right has done a tremendous job of brainwashing the simple-minded into thinking that a living wage job is "socialist". Guess who makes out like a bandit when workers think in those terms? The companies themselves reap incredible profits, and their "leaders" (CEO's, COO's, etc) make incredible 7-figure salaries while you starve out.

Get a clue.

MFE is still stuck in the 1800's.
The modern definition of Socialism when applied to governments is not limited to the Hegelian and Marxist definitions.
Half of Europe governments call themselves Socialist states and the parties running them have some form of Socialism in their name.
I understand why you try to deflect this since it has negative associations but even the US is as much Socialist as it is Capitalist.
The biggest winners in US Socialism are the Corporations (such as FedEx) instead of the individual.

And you have no reason to criticize anyone since you watch MSNBC news channels to get your ideas.
I understand you have the hots for Rachel Madcow but she is gay so she will never give you the time of day.

Good to see your posts again ... I was feeling a bit down on myself but after reading your posts, I feel much better about myself.

But wasn't it us tax paying workers who helped the banks out of their troubles back in 2008? Many corporations will except our money(taxes) in the form of corporate welfare but don't except the fact that we as a country should be in this together. They talk patriotism as they sent our jobs to China. There's no law saying a corporation owes anyone anything but the same could be said about someone who donates a kidney to a stranger. Not even a thank you is owed.

OK, Mr. Libertarian Utopianism. How is that Ron Paul campaign going? If you want to insert your definition into the mix, be my guest. However, the "socialism" Goldilocks is attempting to describe seems to be the Fox news version, hence my explanation in those terms. As in "Obama is a Socialist", and that "he is controlling US corporations". Wrong on both counts.

And as far as hot women go, the brainless ones on Fox are the best-looking, but dumb as a post. Go figure.

Now how can you say that when you don't really watch it? Several of those women are lawyers, and one of those lawyers is the ex-wife of Gavin Newsome, the mayor of San Francisco. Now one might say that about Martha McCallum, but she's so drop dead gorgeous and sweet who cares?

Don't forget Katie Couric.
Although she has aged a bit now, when she first came on, it was obvious she was there for her looks.
She has gotten better over the years, she seems to try.
