My timecard already says that I'm getting paid today for a "Legal Holiday", however, we are expected to come in today.
I honestly don't understand what you guys aren't understanding. Holiday means no work. The extra language that lays out under what conditions the union agrees to work on a holiday is proof of the meaning of the word holiday. Without that language, it would be understood that the agreed upon holidays would be days off. The word holiday doesn't need extra words added to it so that it means no work. It's built into the definition of the word. The holiday pay is even an extra that has to be added in, because the word holiday does not necessarily mean you get paid on the day you don't work. When the union agreed to working holidays, or other industries working holidays, has zero bearing on the fact that holiday means no work. It's astounding how hard people will argue that a word doesn't mean what it very clearly means.
