The Jury has Decided: Twelve designs for a UPS fashion uniform will be realised

A digital diary, which will be online middle of January on the AMD homepage offers a look at the development of the twelve designs — from their first drafts to the final uniforms.

Neuss, Munich, Dusseldorf, Hamburg, Berlin, January 09, 2007 – The AMD Academy of Fashion and Design, located in Munich, Dusseldorf, Hamburg, and since this year in Berlin also, have initiated a competition for the AMD students in cooperation with UPS in Germany. The students were invited to create a woman’s UPS uniform which expresses their ideas about UPS. The uniforms were not to be designed for practical daily use, so the students were able to let their creativity fly.

The works submitted by the AMD students were evaluated by a jury in Munich at the end of October. This jury was comprised of (see photos, from left to right):

• Dirk Wolfes, Chief designer of the fashion brand Toni Gard
• Gabriele Orsech, Director AMD Düsseldorf
• Georg Leusch, Manager External Communications, UPS Germany
• Ali Ansari, Director AMD Munich

Following some lively discussions, the jury selected twelve of the submitted designs. The three designs which most impressed the jury were created by Clarissa Sitzberger, Simona Muth and Yana Yonkova.

The twelve selected designs will be realised in the next few weeks. The design process of the uniforms can be followed at www.amdnet.de/ups_award.html. Each step of the process has been captured in a digital diary.

“The enthusiasm of the AMD students has impressed us. We are really looking forward to seeing the final uniforms and finding out which one can win the favour of the internet voters," says Dirk Wolfes, Chief designer of the fashion brand Toni Gard. “Creating fashion means always playing with imagination in a defined frame. In this case, the subject of UPS was the frame. The twelve designs selected by the jury rose to the challenge of the task by showing the most creativity.”

“We would like to draw attention to UPS as a fashion partner through this competition,” says Georg Leusch, Manager External Communications UPS Germany. “Fashion is global business today. Well-constructed and reliable logistics services are essential for gaining new markets and for being successful in the long run, especially for small and up-and-coming businesses."

"Now that the jury’s decision has been made, it is time for the realization phase,” says Ali Ansari, Artistic Director AMD Munich. It is always a challenge to transform the designs on paper into reality. In order to offer an impression of all that goes into this process, we have decided to provide a digital diary.”

I want irene's uniform. Do they have anything in plus sizes. I'm bigger than a size 1 or 2-maybe a size 10 to 15. Those look like comfortable/safe boots. At least our money is being spent on something worthwhile-unlike a horrible NASCAR team.
