I am planning on starting a family - we have started trying - I was worried about this issue as well - I like UPS - the hours are good - it's short hours, but not too short - great benefits, etc. And I do not want to leave when I conceiv. I am just worried about my independent stubborn attitude at work and my upcoming pregnancy. A lot of the boxes are very heavy - and I will be asking people to help me out with multiple boxes upon multiple boxes which I'm sure that my supervisors will get annoyed with very quickly due to the fact that the heavy boxes might block egresses, pile up etc. My MAIN concern is falling, tripping, falling boxes and the main welfare of me and my growing baby. I have NO problem whatsoever doing whatever tasks UPS asks me to do during my pregnancy as long as they are safe tasks. I would hope that they'd put me up at sorting or unload or something like a clerk or a helper with pre-loaders... or a sorter - but I A) don't know if there are those available spots B) if they're even obligated to try that or C) if their main goal will be to fire me because I'm pregnant and useless. Would you suggest I talk to my union rep/shop stewart when the time arrises? The day I get a positive test result I should be upfront I believe... is this the right way and the right UPS way to go about this? Thanks. And congrats to the other mom to be!
