The industry itself will disappear on it's own as newer cleaner burning fuels that are not as vulnerable to geopolitical events come online. Crude oil is a GLOBAL market subject to global forces outside the ability of the US to influence them let alone control them. We've been fighting for security and control of foreign located sources of oil going all the way back to when we fought the Germans in World War II for Mideast oil. Haven't we shed enough blood and treasury for oil? Yes we are one of the world's leading producers of domestically recovered oil. But more people means more cars more electricity and more consumer goods made from oil.
As for your claim that nobody cares about the boom and bust cycle. Now you may not care because you don't have a dime in the game. But, the people who have skin in the game do care including me....A person who has positions in one oil company and two oil pipeline companies.
So your answer is yes, that you desire for the oil industry to ultimately go away, or that you believe it is inevitable and would pursue policy to hasten that.
That's all you need.
You don't fight the Fed. You don't invest in things that the White House vows to bankrupt. You don't loan to industries that all the papers and institutions and media and government hate.
This isn't hard. When the whole world regrets that your industry even exists....dont' pour money into it.
