PT Pension question

Number-Nine

Well-Known Member
Been with UPS for 5.5 years. Last year (my 4th year) I went to become FT (didnt qualify) and had accumulated roughly 500 hours PT hours. I finished the year 1000 FT/PT hours. I ended up back inside the HUB working PT.

Now my question is, do the FT hours trying to qualify (and working peak) count towards the 750 hours I needed for PT or is it not counted the same? I asked the shop steward and he didn't know. I also asked our union rep and he said he would imagine so.

Who could I contact within UPS/Teamsters to find out a clear answer?

What region are you in?

I would say your total hours only apply to your accrued hours needed for being part time. Since you were never considered regular "full time" or as some would say "made book" your hours should apply to your P/T status.

Call your local, they can help on this topic.

How does the pension work to vest? Do the 5 years need to be consecutive? Or can someone (me) work 4 years, leave, and come back a few years later and work another year?

Part Time?

This is from the company plan that covers most PT.

Break in Service

Generally, you will have a Break in Service in any calendar
year in which you are credited with less than 501 Hours
of Service.
If you are not yet fully vested in your benefit and have six or
more consecutive, one-year breaks in service, your years of
Vesting Credit and Service Credit before your Break in Service
will not be counted.

If You Are Rehired

If you leave employment with all UPS Related Companies with
a vested benefit and are later rehired as an Eligible Employee,
your participation will automatically resume and your prior
benefit service will be restored. However, if you received a
lump sum payment when you left, your prior benefit service
will be restored only if you repay that amount with interest
within five years of your reemployment or, if earlier, the date
you incur six consecutive Breaks in Service.
If you leave employment with all UPS Related Companies
before you are vested in your Plan benefit and are rehired, the
service that you completed before the Break in Service will be
restored if the number of consecutive Breaks in Service is less
than six. If the number of your consecutive Breaks in Service is
six or more, your prior service will be disregarded.
